Camp Life...The Duck Pond
While on vacation, one of our regular stops must include the local ice cream shop. It is the only place I can find that will still make me my absolute favorite blizzard/flurry. Vanilla ice cream with lots of "Nerds" candy swirled in. Deliciously sinful and almost sickeningly sweet. Like a rainbow of fruity flavors hugging your tongue. It's awesome. The girls, both times we were there, opted for "Peppermint Stick" cones. Pretty pink and full of pepperminty candies. Yumo.
Behind this ice cream shop is a sweet little pond that I have visited ever since I was a little girl. And when we go, we always bring a bag of old bread. There are what seems like a billion ducks that reside in this little pond (and an occasional loud, rowdy seagull as well). Momma ducks, baby ducks, daddy ducks and everything in between. They all hang out behind the ice cream shop, 'cause they know we're coming to feed them. Every year. It's tradition. And true to form, they were squawking at us when we arrived.
Last year Lexi was terrified of these winged creatures. They kept jumping for her bread...she was fully convinced they wanted her fingers instead. This year went much better. No tears, shrieking or whining. Just a good ol' flock of feathered friends nibbling on our peace offering. And only one kiddo ended up falling into the pond of ducks...but fortunately it wasn't mine. It made for great entertainment, though.
