Our front steps have been in desperate need of repair for quite some time now. The wood is aged, and Hubs has (more than once) had to crawl underneath to jack them up. They had a bit of a lean-forward feel to them, giving them character. These stairs had served their purpose far beyond their years.
We've never mentioned to anyone the need to replace them. And we've simply neglected to get around to doing it ourselves. Hubs is not a master carpenter, and wood is a tad expensive these days. Especially the good quality, long-lasting pressure treated kind. This afternoon, as we arrived home from church, the sun was reflecting brightly off our front porch.

For a few minutes I couldn't figure what seemed out of place until it occurred to me...
we have brand-new steps. All new, pressure treated wood. Meticulous carpentry. An exact fit. No remnants of the old, battered wood; or even a hint of sawdust. An act of kindness that was most definitely premeditated. And followed through with purposely when we would not be home. I was speechless. Humbled. A need that was seemingly unknown, yet met. Our family is at a complete loss with whom would not only know this need, but would have the resources to follow through. A blessing indeed. More so because it blessed my heart, rather than just filling a need.
How on earth do we pay this person back? We don't. We can't. We'll just have to take this anonymous person's example and pay it forward.
"But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand
know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you."
-Matthew 6:3,4
That is so nice!! I love surprises - and how fun to BE the surpriser -- I bet they were thrilled to be able to do that for you!! So humbling to receive help, but what a huge blessing -- that's awesome!!
