It really was!
Yesterday our family had the opportunity to catch up with "old friends" from college days. Kevin and Amy were camping down the road just a few miles from us, so when we found that out, we were so excited to be able to spend some time with them.
The day was cloudy, cold and overcast, but we spent it laughing around the campfire, munching on yummy camp food, and listening to all the kiddos playing. Which they did much of. With them having all boys, and us having all girls, I wasn't sure what they would find to do. Mind you, my girls are not as of yet the "outdoorsy" type. Until yesterday! These kids were wandering the woods, picking up every slug that inhabited there, finding a salamander (that somehow escaped in my van...we may now have a resident "Sally" living there....), and turning every rock and stick over in pursuit for any creepy crawly! Alexis and Kaden were just the cutest...in just one afternoon they formed a "slug club". And they were insistent on telling the others that they were in no uncertain terms able to join unless they found their own slug to contribute to the club. Cute, eh? My otherwise slightly "prissy" girly girls had the best time of their lives hunting the nasty looking creatures of the wild. Who knew?! It was all fun and games until Lexy wanted to suck her thumb...only to findy "slug slime" that just would NOT wash off!
It honestly felt that we were there for just a few short hours (which my original plan was), but by the time we left it was supper time. I brought the most tired, most filthy girls home, fed them, threw them in the tub and into bed. And didn't hear one single peep from them all night. That's how you know it was a good day!
I went home with dreams of buying a tent and beginning the whole "world of camping" with our family....now I just gotta talk hubby into it...
Either way I am definitely going to purchase one of those oh so cool Pie Irons. A definite must have. Looking forward to summer plans!!
